The Struggle by Tien Chu Book Review/Giveaway

The Struggle by Tien Chu is a grim tale of love and war.  Helen Thomas is beautiful, blond and a headstrong American journalist who believes in adventure.  Tan is  Vietnamese Army Officer caught in the bitter battle against communism with great loyalty to his country.  Tan and Helen meet and immediately "fall in love."  Tan is always trying to protect Helen and Helen wants the same for Tan.  Despite Helen's tears and pleas, Tan bids her with a good bye as he pledges allegiance to his country.  Tan is then transported to a re-education camp as a prison and Helen returns to the States.  After many years and continuous searching, Helen and Tan meet again under painful circumstances.  Will their love hold true?

I was expecting more of  a love story in this book and at first it was a struggle to read about the war and fighting, but the last part of the book was exactly what I envisioned for a very exciting and climactic love story.  I thought the author did a great job of expressing the struggles of the Vietnam War and gave very accurate battle descriptions.  For some parts of the book I felt the author could not grasp how to make smooth conversations between the characters.  But what I liked best of all was the loyalty and persistence of both Tan and Helen to keep holding on to their love.
